What is Optometry?
  Optometry is an independent profession in eye care. Its practice includes a complete examination of the visual system for the estimation of refractive errors.

It also covers manufacturing, supply and fitting of spectacles, contact lenses and other optical aids.

The day- to- day activities of an optometrist comprise Case Histories, Refraction, Testing the Front and Back of the Eye, Colour Vision, Eye Pressure etc.
An optometrist can also conduct special clinics on Contact Lens, Pediatric  and Public Health Optometry.
What do you learn in this course?
  Some of the subjects which are taught in B.Optm. Course are English, Physiology, Optics, Anatomy, Pharmacology, Pathology, Computers, Ophthalmic  Instrumentation, Anterior and Posterior Segment Disease of Eye, Contact Lens, Clinical Refraction and Dispensing, Hospital Procedure and Patient Care, Ophthalmic Laser and Applications, Low Vision Aids etc.

The 4th year internship includes Clinical and Community Optometry, Diagnosis and Management of Ocular Disease, Dispensing Optics etc.
What will be your work prospects after the course?
  On successful completion of the course you will be a primary healthcare professional, institutionally educated and clinically trained in the science of optometry.

You can independently practice the profession or seek employment in an optometry clinic, optical establishment, with an ophthalmic surgeon or in an eye hospital.

Employment opportunities are also open in various multinational companies in their divisions such as Marketing, R&D etc.
You will also be able to teach in a school / college of optometry, pursue higher education or take up further research in the ophthalmic field.
What is the duration of the course?
  WBUT’s Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry & Vision Science is a 4-year, full-time course including one year internship.
What is the eligibility for the course?
  Any student who has passed [10+2] examination with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics is eligible for admission.
What is the admission procedure?
  Admissions are as per the norms laid down by WBUT / Management of George Group of Colleges.
What are the fees for the course?
  Fees for the course comprise :

Admission Fees (one-time)                  : Rs. 8,000/-
Tuition Fees (per semester)                 : Rs. 31,000/-
Development Fees (per semester)     : Rs. 4,000/-
Caution Deposit (one-time)                  : Rs. 8,000/-

(Caution Deposit refundable after completion of the course).
