A Lawyer is an individual licensed by the state to engage in the practice of law. As our laws are so complex, the work of Lawyers and Judges is very significant. As advocates they represent either the plaintiff’s or their client’s case through oral argument or written document. As advisers, lawyers counsel clients on how the facts of their particular case apply to the law. India has the world’s second largest legal profession with more than 600,000 lawyers. Over the years courts have recognized ‘Legal Service’ as a ‘service’ rendered to the consumers and have held that lawyers are accountable to the clients in the cases of deficiency of services. The past decade has been mini-revolution in legal service sector with the greatest legal impact on corporate legal arena. Law Firms, in house firms and individual lawyer’s expertise in providing legal services in corporate sector has increased by several times. Globalization has thus expanded the internal and external demand for legal services.

What is the eligibility for the course?

The candidate should have completed 10+2 from an educational institution recognized by the Educational Authority of Central or State Government.

What is the admission procedure?

Admission to B.A.LL.B programme is made purely on merit as assessed through an admission test (Joint Entrance Test) conducted for the purpose by the University of Calcutta. Candidates seeking Qualification to George School of Law should apply in the prescribed form which is obtainable by writing to or in person from the University of Calcutta.

What are the fees for the course?

Fees for the course comprise:

Total Fees: 2.25 lacs

Time of Admission (one time): Rs. 80,000/-
(Admission Fees: Rs. 15,000 + 1st Year Fees Rs. 60,000 + Caution Deposit Rs. 5,000)

2nd Year: Rs. 15,000/Quarter = Rs. 60,000 ( Rs. 15,000 x 4)

3rd Year: Rs. 20,000/6 months = Rs. 40,000 ( Rs. 20,000 x 2)

4th Year: Rs. 20,000/6 months = Rs. 40,000 ( Rs. 20,000 x 2)

5th Year: Rs. 5,000
