Overview of the College:

George College (Department of Education) boasts a sprawling campus, covering 3008.46 square meters in a built-up area and 3200.78 square meters in land area, in the Mollargate area of Maheshtala on Budge Budge Trunk Road, in the southern fringes of Kolkata. It has a main campus, which is a three-storied building, and an annex building, which is a two-storied one.

This department is run and managed by the George College of Management and Science, a registered trust formed under the auspices of the George Telegraph Group. This group, a leading name in India for more than 9 decades, dedicates itself to 'Building Careers' for the nation's youth. They have accomplished this by imparting training to more than 20000 students a year through numerous vocational, and technical training programs, and university degree programs, at affordable rates, with the primary objective to give them a career.

The main campus houses 6 classrooms, each accommodating more than 50 students, 2 tutorial rooms, a 188 square meters large seminar hall on the 1st floor, and a 296 square meters large multipurpose hall located on the ground floor of the main building. The main building houses a Director's room, a Principal's room, and Staff and Faculty rooms, each with separate washrooms. The building has adequate toilet rooms for staff and students. The annex building has an Administrative Office, a Conference Room on the ground floor, and a Students' Common room on the first floor.

Laboratories for Demonstrative Trainings

For practical classes and demonstrative training in education, George College (Department of Education) has spacious, well-equipped laboratories, and resource centres for imparting practical training. Ten laboratories and resource centres have been built to impart demonstrative teaching skills to the students. There are labs for Education Technology, Information & Communication Technology, Maths Lab, Physics & Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Psychology, and Language Lab, a Cultural Resource Centre, Art & Craft Resource Centre, Health & Physical Education Resource Centre, and a Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW).

Education Technology Lab.

The college has well equipped Technology lab with slide projector, overhead projector, LCD, Television, geometrical figures, models, charts, maps, transparencies, slides, white board, etc. of standard quality. Technology lab is to be utilized for all the lecturers of B.Ed Students. The lab will enable students to get acquainted with knowledge, uses, working and operation of various technology & aids apart from preparing transparencies, PowerPoint presentations, charts, models in their teaching subjects. Teachers can also make use of various aids for the teaching purpose & giving demonstration lessons to make the learning of various topics interesting and effective.

Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Lab.

To keep pace with developments in teaching-learning methods with the help of computers and the internet, George College (Department of Education) has equipped its ICT lab with 100 computers and loaded these with top-of-the-line software. Students can use these to access the latest knowledge and get practice using the Internet. The lab has been designed for students for enhancing and practicing their computation skills.

Mathematics Lab.

The main aim of teaching mathematics is to develop the power of abstract thinking and reasoning. Mathematics helps in developing the habit of verification in students; they accept mathematical truths only after confirming their validity. To enable students to do this, the lab offers number kits, place value pockets, magic lanterns, a film strip projector, an epidiascope, pictures, geometrical instruments, calculating machines, etc.

Physics and Chemistry Lab.

The college has a well-equipped and well-furnished Physics and Chemistry Laboratory for providing students with ample opportunities to conduct experiments, using scientific knowledge and principles. The laboratory is equipped with the most advanced instruments and lab tools such as Plain Mirror, Thermometer, Ammeter, Electro Magnet, Bar Magnet 3D, Convex Mirror, Resistance Box, Rheostat, Stop Watch, Test Tubes, Spectrometer, Electric Balance, and Chemical Balance, etc. This helps the students to practice using different types of equipment properly before they go for their teaching practices.

Biology Lab.

The George College campus offers an exclusive Biology Laboratory where students can get practice in the preparation and examination of microscopic slides, preservation of specimens, demonstration of experiments, exploration of physiological processes, development of teaching models, dissection work, etc.

Geography Lab.

The college has a state-of-the-art Geography Lab equipped with tracing tables, raised maps, surveying instruments, Survey of India toposheets, wall maps, weather maps, charts, models, weather instruments, and computers with internet connectivity, etc.

Psychology Lab.

The psychology lab of the college is provided with apparatus for simple experiments related to educational psychology such as intelligence tests, creativity tests, attitude and aptitude tests, etc. You will also find CDs related to these tests. The Psychology Laboratory equips students and teachers with the knowledge of the tools and equipment used for assessing psychological traits and enhances their skills of using the equipment to draw inferences from the results.

Library

The library is a storehouse of textbooks, reference books, and national and international journals comprising more than 2526 titles and 4539 books. The college has an e-library system. The idea is to provide a book bank facility for every student. The stock of books and periodicals is regularly updated to empower our students and teachers in their research work.

Cultural Resource Centre

The campus' cultural resource centers are open to all students for educating, supporting, and celebrating diverse Indian traditions while fostering leadership and services aimed toward all communities.

Art and Craft Resource Centre

A fully-equipped art & craft resource center is established in the college because it’s believed that the canvas is meant for expressing inner feelings. Every facility and opportunity is extended to students to nourish their minds and explore and harness their creativity.

Health & Physical Education Resource Centre

The campus has a top-notch Health and Physical Education Resource Centre and a large grassy playground. The resource centre has recreational facilities like Carrom Boards, Carom Powder, Chess Set, Stop Watch, Measuring Tape, Flag (House Flag), Ground Flags, Weighing Machine, Badminton Rackets, Badminton ShuttleCocks, Badminton Net, Badminton Polls, Foot Balls, Volleyball, Handball, Skipping Rope, Whistles, Clipper Starter, Ludo, Parade Drum, Anatomy Charts, Yoga Charts, Balanced Diet Charts, Teaching Models related with Physical Education. Students are hugely encouraged by the George Telegraph Sports Club.

Socially Useful Productive Work

Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) subject allows students to choose from a wide range of vocational education activities, like embroidery and knitting, gardening, cooking, painting, carpentry, crafts, and hobbies and community service for senior students (class IX onwards). Students learn to work as a team, with skill and deftness. SUPW aims to teach students how to work as part of a community, encourage community thinking, increase awareness about scientific advancements, and develop a scientific outlook. Training acquired in the classroom is expected to help students solve the day-to-day problems within the community.
