Batik print has its own charm. Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth. Batik is very durable and the colours are more permanent and natural than painting or printed fabrics. Beautiful bags, household linens, murals and wall paintings with striking batik works enjoy a great demand in the domestic and international market. The Batik wall hangings highlight the walls with their bright colours and motifs. Batik has also made its mark as impressive textile products. Batik printed kurtis, saris and wrappers are the preferred choices of the fashion crazy populace.
George College Department of Education has recently arranged a Batik workshop for B.Ed and D.El.Ed students at the Mollargate campus.
Nelson Mandela said that if you talk to a man in a language he understands, this goes to his head and if you talk to him in his mother tongue, this goes to his heart. It is Mother tongue that connects us to our roots. 21 February is being observed globally as the International Mother Language Day to promote linguistic and cultural diversity. February 21, or Bangladesh Language Martyrs’ Day, is now celebrated across the world as International Mother Language Day (Antorjatik Bhasha Dibash). Various programmes are organized all over West Bengal to commemorate this day every year. It emphasizes on imparting basic education to children in their mother languages for better understanding. It further shows the importance of mother tongue and multilingual education to reduce discrimination.
