What is Interior Design?

The popularity of interior design in India is such that it’s no longer a choice of luxury but has evolved to become a necessary amenity. Increased standard of living and a growing concern for shrinking living spaces have made interior design more significant than ever. Currently, India needs more than 100000 interior designers to work in various architectural and real estate firms, event management companies, healthcare and retail industry, hospitality, furniture companies and more. The interior design industry has evolved to become a fully-fledged, established profession today. Along with the existing high demand, the industry also has a tremendous growth rate of 20%, which is expected to continue.

Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Designis a three-year degree course affiliated to MAKAUT (formally known as WBUT)and approved by UGC.

What do you learn in this course?

Students of Interior Design are given the freedom to understand the technicalities of Interior Design vide modular path wherein some of the subjects taught in the course are Civil Construction, Interior Design & Interior Construction, Interior Drawings, Interior Materials & Product Partition, Illumination, Air-Conditioning, Plumbing & Sanitation, Quantity Surveying & Estimation, Landscape & Interior Scape, Commercial Projects, Vaastu Concepts & Design, 2D & 3D CAD Drawings, English Language & Communicative Skills, Computer Fundamentals & IT, Soft Skill & Personality Development, Business Analysis: Environment, Sales & Marketing, Value Education & Human Rights, Accounting, Environmental Studies, Quality Management, Indian Economy & Social Changes, Research Methodology, General Human Psychology & HR Management.

What will be your work prospects after the course?

After completion of this course, there are multiple grade job scopes for the aspirants as they can find jobs in Interior Design & Architecture firms, infrastructure & property developers, furniture manufacturing companies, design firms, building material and interior product vendor. People can even get government jobs in the offices of Municipal and Town Planning Departments. With growing experience and demand, one set up his own interior design firm, be a consultant to high-end projects. Students can also work successfully in Interior Design & Architecture firms, as Infrastructure & property developers, in Design firms, in Municipal and town planning departments.

You will even be able to pursue higher education at the Master’s Degree level or any other higher qualification in India or abroad. Alternatively, you will be equipped to start your own business in this field.

What is the duration of the course?

Bachelor's in Interior Designis a 3-year, full-time course. The course is divided into 6 semesters. There is also sufficient emphasis on field projects for building practical experience.

What is the eligibility for the course?

Any student who has passed 10+2 examination with English is eligible for admission.

What is the admission procedure?

Admissions are as per the norms laid down by MAKAUT / Management of George Group of Colleges.

Fees for the course comprise:

Admission Fees (one-time) : Rs. 8,000/-

Tuition Fees (per semester): Rs. 47,000/-

Caution Deposit (one-time): Rs. 8,000/-

Forms & Prospectus : Rs. 300/-

(Caution deposit is refundable after completion of the course).
